I created the installation “About Those Who Continue to Breathe” as my bachelor’s diploma work. It is rooted in my desire to explore my family’s memory and, through my great-grandmother’s diary entries, to move closer to understanding my personal and family identity. The diary entries become the basis for a visual and spatial reflection on the inheritance of women’s experiences and the presence of the past in the present.
By rewriting these entries in my own handwriting and printing them using the silkscreen technique, I create a personal gesture of transmission, through which family stories continue to live in another time and another body. Through this process, the maternal line is revealed as a significant structure of inheritance, in which women’s experiences, vulnerability, and sense of belonging continue across generations.
Family stories do not disappear if we speak about them, rewrite them, and retell them again and again.
They continue to breathe.
